The Parliamentary Committee on Subordinate Legislation setup to look into the implementation and functioning of the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act (RERA) on Thursday submitted its 21st report to the Lok Sabha.
Expressing its concern over the dilution in the parent RERA rules and delay in the establishment of the Appellate Tribunal by many states, the committee advised the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation to tight the noose and ensure the earliest implementation of RERA by the states.
It also directed the ministry not to ratify any amendments made by the states that compromise in protecting the buyers’ interest.
The Central government notified the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act on 1st May 2016 and directed all the states to implement the same by 1st May 2017. Till now only 22 states including UTs have notified the Act.
