Homebuyers in Haryana are fuming after the appointment of RERA chairmen for Gurugram and Panchkula benches. The Haryana government recently appointed retired IAS officer Krishna Kumar Khandelwal and Rajan Gupta to head RERA Haryana. Both the bureaucrats are alleged to give a clean chit to Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra in Vadra DLF land licensing deal in 2012.
Taking a dig at the state government, Mr. Ashok Khemka, a senior Indian Administrative Service officer voiced deep concern over the appointment of such officials as real estate regulators. Using the popular social media platform Twitter as a platform to express his words, Mr. Khemka tweeted “An officer, who was member of committee that gave clean chit to VADRA-DLF land-licensing deal in 2012, is now rewarded with the lucrative post of real estate regulator. Instead of being hauled up, some continue to make hay. What could be the secret mantra of their 'successes'?” In very less time his tweet went viral and drew thousands of retweets, likes and comments.
While trying to understand the mood of home buyers, reporters of Apna RERA met Mr. Sunil Rathi who has purchased a flat in an ongoing project in 2014. According to him, appointing such corrupt officials as RERA chairman is a major setback for the suffering home buyers. This was not expected from the state government, he added.
The RERA chairmen were appointed by a selection committee headed by headed by Justice Surya Kant of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, including Legal Remembrance Kuldeep Jain and Arun Kumar, Principal Secretary, Town & Country Planning Department, Haryana.
The tenure of RERA chairman is of 5 years or until the age of 65 years, which one will be earlier.
