Housing department-RERA to come into force on 1st May 2017

The Ministry of Housing it clear that the Real Estate (Regulatory & Development) Act, RERA will be implemented in all Indian states from May 1st 2017. The ministry has also directed the state governments to escalate the process to set up the RERA authorities in the given time.

The ministry of Housing department has tweeted "#RERA will come into full effect from 1st May 2017, and we request the states to expedite the process"


The above was stated by Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, joint secretary, ministry of housing and urban poverty alleviation on Thursday at the two-day national review and consultation meet organised in Delhi on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban).

On February 9th, 2017, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu sent a letter to all CMs asking them to confer their personal attention to implement the RERA in time.

As of now, Gujarat , Madhya Pradesh , Kerala and Uttar Pradesh have notified the final rules. The central government has notified the rules for six Union Territories including Delhi.
