Centre urged states - draw up rules to implement the Real Estate act in time

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, the Union urban development minister, has written a letter to chief ministers of all states that have not drawn rules for the Real Estate (regulatory and development) Act, 2016.

The RERA is to be implemented in all Indian states by 1st May 2017 but before that, the states need to draw rules, following specific protocols of land laws.

The act will regulate the real estate sector to save consumers' interest in cases such as delayed delivery of flats, incomplete promises and much more.

Mr. Naidu, in his letter, made a "sincere request" to all CMs to confer their personal attention to this matter to implement the act in time.

As of now, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh have notified the rules. The central government has notified the rules for six Union Territories including Delhi.

Mr. Naidu has also urged the CMs to pass the rules accordance with the law prescribed by the Parliament.
